The Minnesota Home Series marked the fourth team to get their 2nd event win with the Florida Mutineers. Three of the top 4 teams will be attending the Paris Home Series, all looking for their 3rd event win and the possibility of sitting at the top of the standings. London and New York will be trying to create more of a separation from the bottom of the pack.
The event takes place over three days, with the first two days consisting of Group Play and all knockout matches. Day 3 will see the remaining four teams compete for the Finals and an event win. The matches will be taking place a little earlier than normal to help out European fans.
The teams absent from this event are Minnesota RØKKR, Chicago Huntsmen, Seattle Surge, and Los Angeles Guerrillas.
Teams play in a double elimination format in two separate groups. Group A consists of Paris Legion, Florida Mutineers, London Royal Ravens, and Dallas Empire. Group B consists of New York Subliners, OpTic Gaming Los Angeles, Atlanta FaZe, and Toronto Ultra.
Each team will play one game during Day 1. This will solidify the Qualifier match and first of the knockout matches for each group. Let’s see how Day 1 progressed.
The first match of Group A sees the defending champs, Florida Mutineers, against the hosting Paris Legion. Florida are able to make very quick work of Paris, sweeping them 3 games to 0. Owakening continues to find success on this roster along with the ever reliable Skyz.
The next Group A match is between Dallas Empire and London Royal Ravens. Dallas come out and drop an insane defeat on London in Game 1 Hardpoint, 250 – 84. Royal Ravens answer right back behind a pair of stellar performances by Seany and Skrapz to tie the series 1 – 1.
The teams trade the next two games to keep the series tied 2 – 2 with Game 5 Search and Destroy as the deciding factor. Dallas perform well overall, but a less than stellar performance by London’s Seany (he only finds one kill in the match) causes the Royal Ravens to be sent to the first round knockout match. Empire move on the Qualifier match against the Mutineers.
The first match of Group B is between OpTic Gaming LA and New York Subliners. OpTic Gaming easily take Game 1 Hardpoint over the Subliners, but drop the next three games to lose 3 games to 1. LA once again find themselves in a knockout match while New York continue to perform better and better every event.
The final match of the day sees the #12 seed Toronto Ultra versus the #1 seeded Atlanta FaZe. Atlanta has been having issues closing out games early and have proceeded to Game 5 Search and Destroy very frequently as of late. As expected, FaZe take Game 1 Hardpoint, but end up dropping the next two matches to Ultra to go down 2 games to 1.
Atlanta are able to easily take Game 4 Hardpoint, but are forced to a Game 5 Search and Destroy round 11. Cellium is able to turn up huge in Game 5 and drops a 2.57 Kill-to-Death (K/D) behind 18 kills to drop Toronto to the knockout match. Atlanta moves on to face New York in the Qualifier match.
Day 2 starts with the Qualifier rounds consisting of teams playing to make it into bracket play. The losers will await the winners of each group’s first knockout matches for another chance to make it to the Semifinals. Let’s see how Day 2 turned out.
The first match of Group A is between two of the top teams, Florida Mutineers versus Dallas Empire. Florida continues to prove to be too much for even the top teams as they drop Dallas 3 games to 1. It seems no one has yet found the answer to taking down the Mutineers, who move on to the Semifinals.
London faces off against Paris in a battle for Europe in the second match of Group A. While Paris are able to answer back and take Game 2 Search and Destroy from London, the Royal Ravens are able to easily take the other games and send Paris home 3 games to 1. London move on to a rematch against Dallas for a spot in the Semifinals.
As much as London needed a strong series here against Dallas just to boost their morale, they find no luck. Empire sweep the Royal Ravens 3 – 0 behind an insane 1.82 overall K/D by veteran Clayster. Dallas move on to the Semifinals while London are sent home by a top team once again.
The first match for Group B sees Atlanta finally come out strong against New York, taking the first two games to go up 2 games to 0. Unfortunately, for the 5th time in the last two events, they are taken to Game 5 Search and Destroy by a great team performance by the Subliners. aBeZy is able to apply pressure to New York allowing Atlanta to win the match and advance to the Semifinals while the Subliners await the winner of Toronto and Los Angeles.
The second match of the day for Group B sees the biggest defeat of a team in Hardpoint all year. Toronto joins the 200 point club beating LA 250 – 49, just beating down OpTic Gaming in the worst way. The Ultra take that momentum and sweep OpTic Gaming 3 – 0 and move on to face the Subliners.
Toronto come out hot against New York taking Game 1 Hardpoint 250 – 200. Accuracy is able to turn up for the Subliners in the next three games to send Ultra home 3 games to 1. New York continues to make it to the Semifinals event after event, but do they have what it takes to finally make it to the finals?
Day 3 consists of the Semifinals and Finals. Florida Mutineers face off against New York Subliners, and Atlanta FaZe take on Dallas Empire. Let’s see how Day 3 went.
Semifinals Match #1
The first Semifinals match of the day is between the defending champs, Florida Mutineers, and the ever improving New York Subliners. New York is looking for their first event win and to catapult themselves out of the bottom of the bracket. The addition of Mack to the roster a few events ago has allowed this team to continue to rise.
New York take the first two games handily through great performances across the board. Attach posts a 1.55 K/D during Game 1 Hardpoint, followed by a 3.25 K/D from Mack in Game 2 Search and Destroy. New York are looking incredible heading into Game 3 Domination on Hackney Yard.
Florida come out on top in a very close Game 3 Domination 153 – 146, keeping them alive in this series. Skyz and Owakening are able to anchor their team in Game 4 Hardpoint to tie the series 2 – 2.
Game 5 Search and Destroy is pretty even when looking at the stats, but Skyz clutch plays are able to allow Florida to take the game 6 rounds to 3 for the reverse sweep and to make it to their second finals in a row. New York are still unable to make it out of the Semifinals, although they played well the entire event.
Semifinals Match #2
Match #2 of our Semifinals sees two teams competing to get their 3rd event win. FaZe are looking to stay in the #1 seed, while Empire are trying to take their place. The last time these two juggernauts met Atlanta was able to come back from a 0 – 2 deficit to complete the reverse sweep.
This matchup will be much more back and forth. MajorManiak and Priestahh lead Atlanta in Game 1 Hardpoint to a decisive victory, 250 – 145. However, Dallas answer right back with a 6 – 4 Game 2 Search and Destroy behind some clutch moments by iLLey and Clayster.
The next two matches are split, putting the series at 2 – 2. MajorManiak dropped a record 4.6 K/D on Game 3 Domination for FaZe, while Empire wiped the floor with Atlanta in Game 4 Hardpoint. For the 6th time in a row, FaZe will be heading to a Game 5 Search and Destroy.
It seems that Atlanta are immune to Game 5 losses as they outslay Dallas handily. You wouldn’t be able to guess that they won a close 6 – 4 by the stat line with only one member of FaZe dropping below a 1.0 K/D while on the other side Empire have only one player that breaks even at 1.0. Atlanta once again move on to the Finals to face Florida.
Atlanta and Florida face off in a rematch of the Minnesota Home Series Finals where the Mutineers took the series 3 – 1. Both teams are looking for their 3rd event win, and Florida is looking to leap frog over the competition in the standings with a win. Although FaZe is regarded as arguably the top team in the world, Florida have been playing lights out since the addition of Owakening to their roster.
Game 1 Hardpoint is a huge victory for Florida going up 1 – 0 in the series and giving them some breathing room. The next game is Search and Destroy where Atlanta have an insanely positive win/loss ratio and are hands down the best Search and Destroy team in the League. With that being said, it is incredible when the Mutineers are able to take FaZe to round 11 and just clutch the win to go up 2 – 0 in the series, one game away from the event win.
Game 3 Domination will be a game that is talked about for a very long time. It is one of the worst beat downs a team has been subjected to this year with Florida embarrassing Atlanta 235 – 70 breaking the current record for most points in a Domination match.
Florida become the first team to win 3 events in the Call of Duty League and catapult themselves from 4th place to 2nd place, 30 points behind Atlanta who sit comfortably in 1st. Once again Skyz shows up huge for the series, as well as newcomer Owakening who has now won both events he has attended.
We are winding down to the final three events of the year before Champs. The next event will see Chicago and Atlanta fighting for their 3rd event win, while Minnesota tries to claw their way back into the top 4 after recent struggles. New York will also be looking to break into the top 6, just 10 points behind London.
Up next we have the New York Home Series with a wide range of seeded teams. Who will change their position in the standings to receive those first round byes before the end of the season?
New York Home Series will take place online from July 10 – 12. For a full list of event dates see the official Call of Duty League website.
