The Fourth Horseman is here! Destiny 2’s latest exotic weapon has arrived and it is a doozy! The Fourth Horseman is an exotic, automatic shotgun with four barrels for maximum fire rate! Get ready to run and gun because this gun is all about putting out huge amounts of burst damage exceedingly quick. The shotgun’s up close and personal style is powered by two main perks:
- This weapon’s rate of fire is increased significantly, and fires full auto
- Each successive shot has more damage and more spread
The quest to acquire Fourth Horseman is about two to three hours long so we’ve put together a guide to help maximize your speed and efficiency to get your hands on the gun as fast as possible.
Talk to Zavala and Visit His Office
Head to the tower first and speak to Zavala. He will direct you to his office, but it won’t be marked on his map. Jump down the hole in the courtyard onto the scaffolding walkway and head under Banshee. You can follow some stairs down and through a doorway into Zavala’s quarters.
After you enter, turn around and find a hole hidden under the stairs and follow the corridor and shafts until you find the quest marker. This will feel very similar to the opening portion of the Leviathan’s Breath quest. You’ll find that the weapon has been stolen and Zavala will send you to see Ana Bray on Mars.
In Rides a Pale Horse
There are two successive quest steps that can be completed on Mars. The first part of the step called In Rides a Pale Horse directs you to gather intel on Mars by completing Public Events and defeating Cabal. Your first thought is going to be to just run a Lost Sector, but this is far from the most efficient use of time. Every round of Escalation Protocol counts for 10% of this quest and you’ll get an extra boost if one of those rounds is the Cabal Drill event. We were able to finish this step very quickly with a small fireteam of three and some random helpers.
In the second part of the quest step, Guardians are directed to collect Heist Data by killing Psions or opening Cabal chests. Unfortunately the only chests that count are world chest in a Cabal area. No Lost Sector chests, no HVT chests, just world chests. Strap on a Treasure Hunter ghost or a Hella’s Basin Cache Detector for your best bet. You can farm Psions and chests in one of two places. Either the North East quadrant of the Braytech Futurescape or at Firebase Hades in the EDZ. Chests provide 20% progress, while killing Psions (which is much easier) only provides 2%.
Under Our Nose
After you’ve completed your work on Mars, the next step for the Fourth Horseman quest is to visit Benedict 99-40. He’s the glitchy robot in the tower down by the Drifter. He’ll send you off to the EDZ to gather further data. This time, the quest can be completed by Public Events, Defeating Combatants, or Completing Patrols. EDZ is one of the larger, more populated maps, so running Public Events is usually very easy since there are always other guardians around.
Look out especially for events in Firebase Hades and just south of Trostland as these are Ether Resupply events which can easily be solo’d very quickly and you can be off to the next one in no time. It took me about six to seven events to get my 100% on this one which included lots of defeated enemies. No word on the exact percentages of each objective.
Rein It In
For the last part of the quest, you will have needed to unlock your first Rasputin Bunker. That means not only finding the bunker, but also clearing it out. This is a short, fun mission but does require some champion mods. I encountered a Overload Captain as well as two Barrier Servitors but it may be different when other Guardians run it. Thankfully, dying won’t reset your progress so go slow and be methodical. Bring the right weapons and you’ll be fine! Once you’ve unlocked your bunker, though, it’s time for the real challenge.
The final step in this quest asks you to clear out a new Legendary Lost Sector at The Quarry. These Legendary Adventures are on a rotation so if you find that the Quarry is not available, check back the following day to see if it has arrived. There are three on each planet.
The Legendary Quarry is no joke. At power level 1000, the enemies hit very hard and if you are not up to power, you’re in for a wake-up call. Hit up some friends or an LFG and bring more champion mods. This time you’ll need Barrier and Unstoppable. I ran with the Exit Strategy with Barrier Rounds and Devil’s ruin for its inherent Unstoppable perk. It’s a short run, but Guardians will find their shiny new Fourth Horseman waiting for them in the chest at the end of the Lost Sector. Congratulations Guardians! It’s not a holdout weapon; it’s a pathfinder.
