With the release of the new Episode 3 on Coney Island for Division 2, we now get access to the new Specialization: Firewall. With it, we now have the ability to wield the K8-JetStream Flamethrower and access the corresponding passives.
If you do not own the Year 1 Pass however, access to this new gear is not instant. Every Specialization must be “Researched” through five levels in order to unlock. Sometimes the objectives are pretty simple. Other times they can be a bit of a slog. Here we’ve broken down every step of the way and tried to make a guide to get through each step as quickly and efficiently as possible. Best of luck, Agents.
Firewall Stage 1
- Set enemies on fire.
- Kill enemy scorchers.
- Kill enemies closer than 7 meters.
Thankfully for all of these stages, it is important to know that you do not have to be on any single Specialization in order to progress. For this step, swap to the Survivalist Specialization and use the Incendiary Grenade to light groups of enemies on fire. Since you also have to kill enemy scorchers, try running missions with Outcast enemies so you can double up your progress. Roosevelt Island has a ton of them, especially at the higher difficulties. Friends killing Scorchers counts as well. Killing enemies closer than 7 meters should be easy peasy. Before we go further, it should be noted that named enemies are a big part of this grind. One good place to find them is just south of the White House. Every 30 minutes, an open world named enemy will spawn with a few veteran allies. It’s an excellent spot to get the named kills while also filling out your deck of cards that drop with every boss.
Firewall Stage 2
- Defeat “The Wildfire” in Roosevelt Island after destroying her fuel tanks on Normal difficulty or higher.
- Neutralize named enemies while they are afflicted by a status effect.
- Apply 2 status effects to a single enemy before defeating them.
- Complete the Manning National Zoo mission on Normal or higher difficulty.
Now things are starting to… heat up. Wildfire is a named boss about halfway through Roosevelt Island. She appears with a group of other outcasts including the suicide bombers, grenadiers and other infantry. If you want to pop her fuel tank, I found it best to clear out other enemies first so you can focus your fire. Before you do this, though, use her as a farm point. She counts as a named enemy so you can hit her with a status effect, kill her, and then kill yourself to respawn the area and do it again. If you use the blinding firefly and an Incendiary grenade (or stinger hive, or firestarter chem launcher, whatever you like), you can make quick work of three objectives at once. As for Manning, just set it on Normal and blaze through it. Matchmaking on the episodic content seems harder.
Firewall Stage 3
- Eliminate “The Bloodhound” in the Federal Emergency Bunker after applying the bleed effect to him on Normal or higher difficulty.
- Kill elite enemies while they are inflicted with status a effect.
- Kill enemies while you are burning.
- Kill named enemies using your sidearm.
- Complete Space Administration HQ mission against True Sons on Normal or higher difficulty.
The first three of these points can be checked off in a single run through FEB on Hard or Challenging. There are an abundant amount of elite enemies that you can use your stinger hive on. You can use the hallways to funnel elite suicide bombers into your flame turret as well. In addition to this, there is an entire room on fire that you can use to light yourself before you take down enemies. I suggest weakening them first and then run and gun. Bloodhound is an elite heavy unit at the end of the mission. I used a turret to lure him to the center of the room, hit him with the frag grenade to cause a bleed and then melted him with the Demolitionist grenade launcher. Not too bad. Another farm spot that you can use for this stage is Lincoln Memorial. A short way in you fight a heavy unit named Major Ashford. Kill him with your pistol and then die before you clear the other enemies. Repeat as necessary.
Firewall Stage 4
- Neutralize “The Corpulent” in the Potomac Event Center after destroying his ammo pack on Normal or higher difficulty.
- Eliminate enemies with melee attacks using the ballistic shield.
- Salute a burning enemy before killing them. (lol)
- Kill named enemies using skills.
- Complete the DARPA Research Labs mission at the Pentagon on Hard or higher difficulty.
The Corpulent is the final boss of the PEC and he spawns after a different named boss called The Owl. Try to kill them both with a seeker or another skill to take advantage of your time. I found the Incendiary grenade to be most effective with the salute since those enemies burn for a pretty long time. Enemies must be on fire before you salute. The fire turret would work as well, but the cone of effectiveness is small. Melee kills with the shield takes about 15 seconds out in the open world. Just find an event like Territory Control and go to town. Use either the Lincoln Memorial named boss, or farm The Owl to complete the named enemy kills. DARPA is a pretty tough mission especially at the higher difficulties. I suggest you bring a friend.
*Quick note: the reward for stage 4, whether you own the pass or not, is the Savage Wolverine AR. It absolutely shreds. Go get it.
Firewall Stage 5
- Neutralize Milla “Wyvern” Radek in the Tidal Basin mission after blinding her twice on Normal or higher difficulty.
- Eliminate elite scorcher enemies.
- Eliminate named enemies while they are bleeding.
- Complete any invaded stronghold mission on Hard or higher difficulty.
The final step of the research data seems daunting. Elite scorcher enemies aren’t super common, but I found six on Roosevelt on Challenging. There are two in DCD on Challenging as well. I didn’t check Potomac or Bunker. They’ll likely spawn with level 3-4 Control Points as well. The first and last points can be completed at once. Run Tidal Basin on Hard or Challenging and bring friends. Just make sure to bring the Blinder Firefly to the final encounter. The blinds only count after she can be damaged so wait until you see her health bar in your objectives. As for the named enemies, I used the same farm as before, but with the stinger hive.
Congratulations! You now have the new Firewall Specialization! This new playstyle focuses on close quarter combat and heavy tick damage from the fire. Focus your build on status effects, and burn damage/duration. Try it with the Pyromaniac AR for extra damage against burning enemies. It will also work great with the new Chameleon Exotic AR if you get lucky! Players will also benefit from a slightly tankier build if you’re going to be trying to tank most of the enemy damage. The skill tree allows for extra health on kills so stacking HP instead of Armor may be helpful as well.
We’d love to see some epic plays and awesome new builds with the new Firewall Specialization so make sure to share them with us at Clutch.Win!
