Paramount+, Peacock Discussed Combining Platforms

In another big development in the entertainment landscape, Paramount+ and NBCUniversal’s Peacock have reportedly discussed joining forces to take on some of the industry’s biggest streaming companies, according to the Wall Street Journal.

This comes on the heels of the news this month that ESPN, FOX, and Warner Bros. Discovery were joining forces to release their own, new sports streaming platform that is reportedly set to arrive sometime later in 2024.

Now, it appears another team may be forming, as the two companies have reportedly “explored a commercial partnership or joint venture among the arrangements”.

According to Variety, no imminent deal is expected and talks “haven’t progressed beyond the spit-balling stage” but noted that the two companies already are JV partners for European streaming service SkyShowtime.

SkyShowtime, which was launched back in 2021, as a streaming service for both Comcast and Paramount Global that targets the European markets that weren’t already being served by either Peacock or Paramount+.

So, while a deal isn’t imminent, there is a working relationship between the two.

Still, it’s a hat tip to what is to come this year, and over the next few years, as the streaming landscape continues to evolve. Despite a number of layoffs across the tech, gaming, and entertainment industries it’s not stopping the big brand giants from diving deeper into their investments in the space.

Stay tuned for more as this seems like something that is long from being over, as talks may pick up again given all the moves in the industry.
